We know your instruments are precious. Here is everything you need to know to ensure they travel safely with you.

Small Musical Instruments

If your instrument weighs up to 8 kg (including the case) and its dimensions do not exceed 23X40X51 cm (including wheels and handles)‚ you may bring it into the cabin.

Info on flying with small musical instruments


  • Storage: Instruments must be stowed in the overhead bin.

    Due to limited overhead space‚ your instrument might be moved to the aircraft hold at the last minute. We strongly recommend using a high-quality‚ protective case to prevent any damage.

  • Allowance: Carrying an instrument in the cabin replaces your trolley/carry-on bag allowance.

Large Musical Instruments

For instruments that exceed carry-on size or weight limits (e.g.‚ a Cello)‚ you can choose between purchase an Extra Seat and Check it as Baggage.

Purchase an Extra Seat


  • Max Dimensions: 150 cm height (from the floor) or 110 cm height (from the seat)‚ and 42 cm width
  • Max Weight: 30 kg.

Check it as Baggage


Your instrument can be sent as part of your checked baggage allowance.

Important Requirements

The following additional conditions also apply to large musical instruments:

  • Packaging: The instrument must be packed in a secure‚ hard-shell case.
  • Fees: If the instrument (plus your other bags) exceeds your weight allowance‚ standard excess weight fees will apply.
  • Pre-approval: If your instrument requires an extra seat or exceeds the free baggage allowance‚ you must notify us at least 7 days in advance. Please download and submit the Musical Instruments Form to bookings@BlueBirdair.com.

    Without pre-approval‚ we reserve the right to refuse the instrument at check-in without legal or financial liability.

  • Insurance & Liability: Instruments in the aircraft hold must be covered by additional travel insurance. All instruments are accepted only upon signing a "Limited Release of Liability" (Limited Release Tag) at check-in‚ which releases the airline from liability for any damage.
